Men's Basketball Picked Second, Micheal Jacobs Named First Team All-SWAC Preseason Selection

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Guard Micheal Jacobs was named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Preseason First Team, the conference announced during media day on Wednesday morning at the Embassy Suites Hotel. 

The Atlanta, GA. native averaged 11.2 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 26 games played. He posted a career-high 27 points vs. Alabama State and added a personal-best six rebounds (at Prairie View and vs Bethune-Cookman) and six assists (at Iowa and at Prairie View) last season.

Jackson State's Daeshun Ruffin was selected the SWAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year, while Bethune-Cookman's Doctor Bradley earned Defensive Player of the Year Honors.

Joining Dozier, Ruffin and Bradley on the first team was Southern's Michael Jacobs and Bethune-Cookman's Daniel Rouzan. 

Zaire Hayes (Texas Southern), Dorian McMillian (Jackson State), Jordan Chatman (Florida A&M), Seneca Willoughby (Bethune-Cookman) and Micah Simpson (Alabama State) were selected to the second team.

Southern University men's basketball team was chosen second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Poll, the conference announced at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Wednesday morning during the league's Media Day.

The Jaguars received 214 points in being selected second in the preseason poll, while Bethune-Cookman, with 12 first-place votes, garnered 232 points to claim the top spot.  Following Southern was Jackson State (208 points), Alabama State (183 points) and Texas Southern (182 points).

Alabama A&M (163 points) was sixth, Grambling State (151 points) was seventh, followed by Florida A&M (115 points), Prairie View A&M (99 points), Alcorn State (74 points), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (70 points) and Mississippi Valley State (25 points). 

Southern begins the regular season on Nov. 3 when they travel to SEC foe Arkansas. Their home opener will be on (Nov. 10) playing host to Ecclesia College at 11:00 am.
