Jaguars Rally Late to Secure Thrilling Comeback Win Over Alabama State on ESPNU

BATON ROUGE, La. | Southern University men's basketball delivered a dramatic finish Monday night inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center, erasing a second-half deficit and closing with poise to earn a 69-68 comeback victory over Alabama State in front of a crowd of 5,127.

Trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half the Jaguars (11–13, 7–4 SWAC) stayed composed, tightened defensively, and made winning plays down the stretch to secure the one-point victory on national television.

Southern dominated the paint and the glass throughout the night, scoring 32 points in the paint and holding 34-22 rebounding advantage, while also forcing key turnovers late to swing momentum.

DaMariee Jones helped anchored the comeback finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds, for his fifth double-double of the season. Jones also knocked down two clutch free throws with just over five minutes remaining to give the Jaguars the lead and fueled Southern's late run.

Micheal Jacobs delivered a steady all-around effort scoring 11 points, dishing out six assists, and coming up with a crucial steal in the final minute to help set up the game-winning sequence. Jacobs also went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, keeping Southern within striking distance throughout the second half.

AJ Barnes and Terrance Dixon Jr. added 12 and eight points respectively, while Cam Amboree chipped in eight points, helping Southern receive balanced contributions across the lineup. The Jaguars also shot 90.9 percent from the free-throw line in the second half.

With the game tied late, Fazl Oshodi who was 0-of-5 from behind the arc delivered the defining moment. Knocking down a go-ahead three-pointer with 6.3 seconds remaining to put Southern in front for good.

The Jaguars then closed the game with a defensive stand, sealing a hard-earned conference win.
