Men's Basketball Releases 2023-24 Schedule

BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Southern University Men's Basketball team announces the 2023-24 schedule. Including 13 non-conference games within the months of November and December before heading into Southwestern Athletic Conference play in January.

The Jaguars first game this fall will be a home exhibition game as they face Louisiana Christian (Oct. 31). After the opening contest, Southern will travel to TCU on (Nov. 6), University of Nevada Las Vegas on (Nov. 8), and continuing the road trip on (Nov. 13) playing at the University of Arizona.

Southern will then face Western Illinois University (Nov. 17), the University of Illinois (Nov. 19), Valparaiso University (Nov. 25) and Marquette University (Nov. 28)

The Jaguars start the month of December on the road, traveling to Mississippi State on (Dec. 3) before returning to the friendly confines of the F.G. Clark Activity Center hosting Southeastern Louisiana on (Dec.9). SU will face Champion Christian College on (Dec. 12) at home before traveling down I-10 to play Tulane University on (Dec. 16). The final non-conference matchups the Jaguars will host Wiley College (Dec. 19) and Ecclesia College (Dec. 31).

"Our non-conference schedule will definitely be a challenging one for us, as we face some great teams and competition. Ultimately that will help prepare us down the road for a tough Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule," said first year Head Men's Basketball Coach Kevin Johnson. "I think Deputy Athletics Director Rodney Kirschner did a really great job putting together a competitive schedule." "Along with the other teams that we face, we should learn a lot about ourselves and have us competing at the highest level going into SWAC play!"

SU opens Southwestern Athletic Conference play with early conference home stand when Texas Southern visits (Jan. 6) and Prairie View (Jan. 8). Southern then will travel for a three-game road swing with matchups at Florida A&M (Jan. 13), Bethune Cookman (Jan. 15) and Grambling State (Jan. 20). The Jaguars will return home against Arkansas Pine Bluff on (Jan. 27) and Mississippi Valley State on (Jan. 29) to end the month of January.

To open February, they will go on two-game road stretch against Alcorn State (Feb. 3) and Jackson State (Feb. 5).

The second half of the SWAC conference schedule starts off with the Jaguars hosting Alabama A&M on (Feb. 10) and Alabama State on (Feb. 12) before traveling to Prairie View (Feb.17) and Texas Southern (Feb.19). The Jaguars will return home for three-game home stretch against Grambling State (Feb. 24), Bethune Cookman (March 2) and Florida A&M (March 4).

To conclude the SWAC regular season, Southern will travel for the final two games against Alabama State (March 7) and Alabama A&M (March 9).

The 2024 Pepsi SWAC Basketball Tournament will be hosted in Birmingham, AL at Bartow Arena on the campus of UAB from (March 13 - March 16).
