Brion Whitley Named SWAC Player of the Week Jan. 17

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Southern's Brion Whitley and Alcorn State's Dominic Brewton for SWAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of conference play.

Player of the Week
Whitley helped lead Southern to a league win over rival Grambling State this past Saturday. He scored a game-high and career-high 32 points while grabbing three rebounds. He shot 52.3 percent from the field on 11-of-21 shooting - including 45 percent from three-point range on 5-of-11 shooting. In addition, he went a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line.

Impact Player of the Week
Brewton was the catalyst in helping lead Alcorn State to back-to-back overtime wins in league play this past week. Brewton averaged 23.0 points per game on 62 percent shooting from the field. It was Brewton's three-pointer at the buzzer in the second half against Texas Southern that forced overtime and allowed the Braves to collect the road victory.
