NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- Southern picks up their first win of the 2021 season off solid batting and defense as they beat UNO 4-3 in the first game of the day Sunday afternoon. SU drops the second game 6-3 and the weekend series to UNO 2-1 at Privateer Park.
On Sunday (Game 2)
The Jags started the day off hot, picking up seven hits to produce four runs.
Tremaine Spears hit a sac-fly to center field to pick up an RBI bringing in Jaylen Armstrong to give the Jags their first run of the day in the top of the fifth inning. With 2 outs recorded O'Neill Burgos walks up to the plate and delivers a beautiful 330-yard Home-Run over the left field wall for a two run homer bringing in Taj Porter to give the Jags a 3-1 lead.
Joseph Battaglia III gets a win in his first start of the season throwing 63 pitches with 34 strikes.

Porter, Armstrong, Burgos and O'Neill Burgos all had one run each.
On Sunday (Game 3)
Coming off the first win of the young season SU gave up five runs in the first inning to UNO before
Jahli Hendricks grounded into a double play advancing Bubba Thompson to third and Zavier Moore across home plate to give the Jags the first run in the game three. In top of the eighth inning O'Neill Burgos singled to right center sending Tremaine Spears and Judah Wilbur racing across home plate to give the Jags their final two runs of the game.
Christian Davis picks up his first loss of the season throwing 51 pitches with 28 strikes.
"They jumped on us early.
Wilhelm Allen pitched some big innings in relief to give us a chance late in the game.
Burgos picked two RBI's but we could muster anything else after that. Solid weekend with room for improvements," said
Chris Crenshaw, SU Head Coach.

SU is 1-2 on the season.
Up Next
Southern will be back in action on Friday, February 26th as they travel to North Louisiana to J.C. Love Field to take on the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech in a three-day series. First pitch is slated for 6 PM.
