Jaguars Sign Five Players for 2020-21 Basketball Season

Southern University Head Men's Basketball Coach Sean Woods announced on Tuesday the addition 
of five players for the 2020-21 roster that includes one junior college transfer, three Division 1 transfers
and one high school prospect all signed to play for the Jaguars next season.  

"Under unprecedented circumstances, with COVID-19, our staff was able to assemble a tremendous
recruiting class," Head Coach Sean Woods said.  "We identified the areas where we felt we needed to improve
in order to compliment the returning players and build upon the momentum of last season.  
"I believe all five players embody the traits that we are looking for in future players here
at SU that best fit our style of play."

"I feel Jaguar fans will be excited about the upcoming season and to watch these fine young men
when they return to the Mini Dome to showcase their talents."

List of Signees:


DeSean Woods, 6'0", 165, Guard, Lexington, KY.,  
Dunham High School and Core4Prep Academy


Spent a post graduate season at Core4Prep Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.  Senior season helped lead 
Dunham High School to a 32-6 record and state runner up finish in the LHSAA Division III championship 
game.  Averaged 14.3 points and 9.1 assists per game.  Also earned a First Team All District (2A-8)
Selection.  As a junior, led DeLand (FL) High School to a 22-7 record averaging 9.6 points, 7.9 rebounds
and 4.1 assists per game.  Also earned a First Team All District (7A-2) selection his junior season.
DeSean attended Rowan County (KY) High School his sophomore and freshman seasons.  As a sophomore 
averaged 13.7 points, 6.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game in leading Rowan County to a 26-10 record 
and earning District MVP and being an All Region selection.    

Coach Woods on DeSean:
"DeSean, is a point guard that really knows how to play and make everyone around him better.  He's a
really good play maker especially in transition that can shoot with range and has the potential to be
a great on ball defender along with the other guards on our team.  He adds more depth to our guard 
position."

Samkelo Cele, 6'5", 210,  Forward,  Duban, South Africa.,
Bull City Prep and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (JC)


Cele averaged 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game his sophomore season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Helped lead the Norseman to a 25-7 record, and 15-1 record in conference and winning the NJCAA Region 2
Regular Season Championship.  Also earned Second Team Region 2 Honors.  Cele shot 51 percent from the 
field, 41 percent from the 3 point line and shot 80 percent from the free throw line.  Had season highs 
of 26 points at Redlands and Eastern Oklahoma and 15 rebounds vs Western Oklahoma JC.  As a freshman helped
lead the Norseman to a 27-7 record, and 14-2 record in conference as they won the NJCAA Region 2 Regular 
Season and Tournament Championships.  Averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds as a freshman, as they advanced to
the NJCAA National Tournament.  Attended Bull City Prep in North Carolina.

Coach Woods on Samkelo:
"Samkelo brings versatility, energy and great toughness to our team.  He's a guard with size that plays
on both ends of the court.   He can score in a variety of ways and is a tenacious offensive rebounder.
Great young man who I'm looking forward to coaching!"

Andre Allen,  6'9",  210,  Forward,  Los Angeles, CA.,
Arizona Western College and Arizona State University 


Transfer from Arizona State, who played four games in limited action.  Allen spent two seasons at Arizona
Western College (JC) where he was a 3 star prospect by 24/7 Sports and was ranked the 12th best player in the 
nation in junior college.  Also was ranked as the 11th best player in the nation by JUCORecruiting.com.
Allen averaged 13.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Arizona Western, in leading the Matadors
to the NJCAA National Tournament, while shooting .473 from the field and .686 from the free-throw line. He had
eight games in which he scored 20 points or more and reached double figures in rebounding 14 times.  He averaged
10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in his freshman season (2017-18) as the team went 23-10 and 16-6 in league
play. He had a career-high 27 points against Tohono O'odham Community College.  Allen originally signed a letter
of intent with the University of Buffalo but he obtained a release after a coaching change. He played his high 
school ball at Balboa City School, where they went 34-6 during his senior season.
 
Coach Woods on Andre:
"Andre is a versatile 6'9 combo big with high major athleticism and ability.  Has a great motor, which allows
him to be a very tenacious rebounder and shot blocker.  He adds scoring on the inside for us."

Andre Toure,  6'8",  205,  Forward,  Paris, France.,
Howard University Transfer


Sophomore season at Howard averaged 2.2 points and 1.9 rebounds.  As a freshman Selected Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week twice (Dec. 18 & Feb. 26) during the 2018-2019 season.  Averaged 5.0 points
and 3.4 rebounds as a freshman  Saw action in 28 games (11 starts), recorded four double-figure scoring 
performance.  In his collegiate debut versus Washington Adventist (Nov. 7), he produced a season-best 14 points 
and six boards in the victory.  Notched a career-high 10 rebounds versus Morgan State (Jan. 15).  Tied a 
career-high 14 points at Morgan State (Feb. 2).  In High School played for the U19 Russian National Team.  Won
two prep school championships at St. Benedict's (NJ) Preparatory School.  In his senior year, he helped lead 
St. Benedict's Preparatory to a Top 10 ranking in the country.

Coach Woods on Andre:
"Andre is a very skilled kid withy size.  He's 6'8 1/2 with guard type ability on both ends of the court. Andre plays
with a great motor.  He will fit nicely in our "dribble drive" offense and the way we attack the offensive glass!
Also brings great international experience by being a player on the under 19 Russian National Team."

Harrison Henderson,  6'11",  240,  Forward/Center,  Dallas, TX.,
University of Milwaukee and USC Transfer


Saw action in 27 games over the course of his only season with UW Milwaukee averaging 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per
contest. Turned in a team-leading performance against Wisconsin Lutheran, finishing with a team-high and career
best 16 points. Chipped in 7 points, 2 rebounds and a block at Kansas. Went off for 13 points in just 16 minutes
of action against Green Bay.  Spent his first two seasons at the University of Southern California, playing in 11 games as 
a sophomore, with the Trojans posting a 24-12 record while finishing the postseason in the National 
Invitation Tournament. As a freshmen, Henderson averaged 1.3 points and a rebound per contest as USC posted 26 
victories before getting knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round.  As a senior at South Grand Prairie
High School was rated a three-star recruit in the class of 2016 … was ranked No. 201 nationally in the 247Sports 
rankings, 48th among power forwards and 15th in the state of Texas. Averaged 12.1 points and 6.6 rebounds and was 
named first team all-district as a senior.

Coach Woods on Harrison:
"Harrison will bring size, length, athleticism and another low post presence both on offense and defense.  He also has
the potential to stretch the defense with his shooting ability from the outside and the ability to score in the post.
I am excited to add his ability, experience and character to our Jaguar program!"
