The Southern Jaguars' game versus the Florida A&M Rattlers on December 14 is being relocated to Clifford Seymour Gymnasium.
The F.G. Clark Activity Center, a 7,500-seat multi-purpose arena opened in 1975, will be under preparations to host Fall Commencement exercises on Dec. 15.
The two teams were not able to negotiate another date, without impacting other games surrounding Dec. 14.
"We tried to find another date, but with graduation on that weekend, we could not play in the minidome and have it ready for graduation the following morning." said head coach Morris Scott.
The Men's Basketball program drubbed Louisiana Tech 63-47 on December 10, 2005, the last time the Jags played in Seymour Gymnasium. The last time Southern played for an extended period of time in Seymour was during the 2002-03 season, when the Jaguars went 8-8 but ended the season with five straight home games, recording four wins and one loss.
Seymour Gymnasium (formerly named the Men's Gym) was the former home of the Jaguars basketball program. Southern won regular season SWAC titles from 1951-1954 and 1965, which the Jaguars appeared in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball Tournament.
"It's an honor to coach in Seymour Gym, with the storied history and to face my Alma Mater, with [assistant] coach Chrystopher Cornelius, who coached at FAMU (2003-07)," said head coach Morris Scott.
"These are two historic programs that are rich in tradition, set to play in a historic gym. [I] can't ask for a better story."
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
