Southern starters Calvin Godfrey and Cameron Monroe, along with reserve guard Tre Lynch, each scored 12 points as the Jaguars notched a 76-59 win over NAIA member Blue Mountain College Monday night in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
Despite missing 12 free throws, Southern, which suffered a late collapse in a three-point overtime loss to Arkansas-Little Rock Friday, used a suffocating full court defense that forced 12 Toppers' turnovers and held Blue Mountain College to 40 percent shooting from the field.
Godfrey, who shot 6 of 7 from the field and grabbed four rebounds, benefited from a concerted Jaguar effort to exploit the Toppers lack of size with a high-low post offense.
Monroe, who also went 6 of 7 from the field, scored easily in transition as Southern produced 14 points of BMC turnovers and share the basketball to the tune of 19 assists.
Lynch, a 5-9 guard who transfered from Lamar University, came of the bench to add 12 points and finished as the game leading rebounder with eight rebounds.
As a team Southern shot 51 percent from the field and commited a season low five turnovers.
Shane Butler led the Toppers with a game high 14 points.
Southern will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before flying out to Denver, Colo. Sunday to face Denver University Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. MST.
