Cross Country Finishes Second & Third at LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University cross country team competed Friday morning and the men earned a second-place finish and women third-place finish at the LSU Invitational at the LSU University Recreational Field Complex.

Friday morning started off with the men taking the course in the 2×4000-meter relay. The Jaguars finished second with a point total of 37. Southern earned seventh through ninth place and 13^th place.

Leading the way on the men's side was Kelvin Kipkemboi and Rushane Miller with Kipkemboi crossing the finish line for a seventh-place finish in 26:20.44. Bryce Campbell was the next Jaguars to cross the finish line, stopping the clock for he and Marciano Taylor at 26:25.45 in eighth- place. Right behind Campbell was Marciano Taylor, stopping the clock for he and Ta'Cardrick Alexander at 27:03.76. Christopher Hughes, who finished at 30:18.85 for a 13^th-place finish for he and Joesph Harris to round out the field for SU. The Jaguars earned 37 points, earning a second-place finish on the day.

The women's relay finished the day with teams of two running 3K each Doreen Onchangu was the first Lady Jaguars to stop the clock for her team on the day, clocking a time of 23:50.08 and a 13^th-place finish for her and Linda Jepchumba. As a team, the Lady Jaguars finished in third-place.

SU will enjoy a week of rest and recovery before the Nicholls State Cros Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28. The women will start with a 5K race at 8 a.m. while the men will run a four-mile course at 8:30 a.m. at the Nicholls Farm.
