Southern Cross Country Set To Compete At SWAC Championship

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Southern University cross country teams is hoping their schedule has prepared them for the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship Monday in Tallahassee, Florida.

Southern is coming off the Lion Up Invitational at Southeastern Louisiana University. The Jaguars will use the experience they gained for the 8k race for the men and 5k race for the women.

Lafayette Collins has been the lead Jaguars all season. He was named the SWAC men's runner of the week twice for his performance at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede and at the SLU Lion Up Invitational. Last year, Collins finished 21^st last year with his personal best of 27:20.9 in the 8k race. He ran a 26:32.3 at SLU in the 8k.

The last 8k race that the Jaguars competed in Christian Phillips ran a 26:46.2, Bryce Campbell crossed at 27:14.8, Marciano Taylor finished 27:19.1, Cameron Stepter crossed at 27:43.7, Ta'Cardrick Alexander had a time of 27:49.1, Christopher Hughes finished at 28:29.1, Rushane Miller crossed at 28:35.3, Darrell Lacour finished 29:51.0 and Tommy Thomas was the final Jaguar to finish at 34:21.3.

Camille Lewis has been the fastest woman thus far for the Jaguars. She set her personal best time of 19:49.3 in the 5k at the SLU Lion Up Invitational and was named the SWAC women's runner of the week for her performance at the SLU Lion Up Invitational.

In 5k races this season the Lady Jaguars competed in and set season best, Taylor Williams ran a 21:04.0 at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede, Sierra Session finished 22:26.0 at the Nicholls XC Invitational, Shani Simon crossed at 22:26.9 at the Nicholls XC Invitational, Destiny Mitchell ran a time of 23:55.0 and Kashi Roberts crossed at 24:14.8 both at the SLU Lion Up Invitational.
