BATON ROUGE, LA – The beginning of a new year signals the start of the indoor track and field season. Southern University got their first action at the LSU Purple Tiger inside the Carl Maddox Field House. The Jaguars came away with multiple top-10 finishes, including
Shani Simon winning the women's 400m crown and
Rushane Miller winning the men's 800m crown.
Things got started early with field events where the Jaguars had four top ten performances.
Logan Lewis- 8th in women's weight throw 15.64m (51'3".75)
Lawrenee' Hart- 7th in the weight throw 15.87m (52'00.75)
Kevon Hamilton- 2nd in Men's Triple Jump 15.02m (49'3".50) & ranked #16 in the country
Peyton Funderburk- freshman opened up with 5.65m (18'6".25) in the long jump
Roman Smith- finished 3rd in the high jump with 2.00m (6'6".75) high jump
Later that afternoon the running events got kicked off where
Shani Simon won the women's 400m with a time of 1:00.33 and Miller winning the men's 800m with a time of 1:58.29.
Simon won the LSU Purple Tiger 400m (1:00.33)
Jordan Thompson finished 6th in the 60mH (8.11)
Miller won the LSU Purple Tiger 800m (1:58.29)
Marciano Taylor finished 3rd in the 800m (1:59.44)
Men's 4x400 Relay finished 3rd (3:21.58) which consist
Clydeterrious Thompson, Rushane Miller, Marciano Taylor and Ta'Cardrick Alexander.
UP NEXT
Southern will travel to Nashville, TN to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday, January 19th and Saturday, January 20th.
