Jaguars Set for Weekend at Bobcat Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University men's and women's track and field teams return to action this weekend at the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State University from April 2–4.
 
Southern will send a full squad to San Marcos, competing across sprints, hurdles, middle distance, field events and relays as the outdoor season continues to build toward championship form.
 
On the track, the Jaguars will be well represented in the short sprints. Omari Dupas, Kaden Lewis and Austin Willis are entered in the men's 100 meters, while Tashina Alase, Rondisa Williams and freshman Taylor Hankton headline the women's side of the event. Hankton will also double back in the 200 meters and hurdles, highlighting a busy weekend for the rookie sprinter.
 
Christon Washington joins Dupas, Lewis and Willis in the men's 200 meters, while T'La Dewitt and Williams will compete in both the 200 and 400 meters for the Lady Jaguars. Dewitt is also scheduled for the 400-meter hurdles, adding to Southern's depth in the one-lap events.
In the hurdle events, Hankton will line up in the women's 100-meter hurdles, while Marcus Delcy represents Southern in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
 
The middle-distance group will see Keeton Johnson entered in both the 800 and 1500 meters on the men's side, with London Harden competing in the women's 800 meters.
 
Southern's field event athletes will also be active throughout the meet. Roman Smith and Keith Fowler will compete in the men's high jump, while Sahnya Lathon is entered in the women's high jump. Ayanna Hunt and Ariyonna Edmond will represent Southern in the women's throws, competing in the discus and hammer throw, with Michael Fulton set for action in the men's discus and shot put.
 
In the horizontal jumps, Reginald King and Koi Wedderburn are scheduled for the men's triple jump, while Azariah Foster and Peyton Funderburk will compete in the long jump. Edmond and Hunt will also take part in the women's long jump and shot put.
 
Southern will cap the weekend with its relay teams. The men's 4x100-meter relay will feature Dupas, Washington, Willis and Lewis, while the women's 4x100-meter relay includes Alase, Williams, Hankton and Dewitt. The men's 4x400-meter relay is set with Johnson, Delcy, Dupas and Washington, and the women's 4x400-meter relay will be anchored by Hankton, Dewitt, Williams, London Harden and Alase.
