HAMMOND, LA – Severe weather caused Southern University's track and field team to shorten their stay at the Strawberry Relays hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University on Saturday in Hammond, Louisiana.
 
With the impending weather looming, a limited number of Jaguars and Lady Jaguars were able to complete their events.
 
Logan Lewis, Lawrenee' Hart and Schrell Chevalier opened up the meet with top 10 finishes in the hammer throw. Lewis had a third-place finish with a throw of 166 feet 8 inches. Hart finished fifth at 149 feet 9 inches and Schrell Chevalier had a 143 feet 1 inch throw. Char'Vares Wilson finished sixth with a throw of 144 feet 1 inch and Kolby Mathews finished seventh at 130 feet 1 inch for the men.
 
Kaila Poole was able to get a throw of 108 feet 2 inches in the discus to finish fourth.
 
Maliek Bush finished the men's high jump in eighth with a height of 6 feet 0.75 inch.
 
Lafayette Collins got his first win of the day with the 3000-meter Steeplechase to open the running events. Collins with a new bested his previous personal best by 35 seconds with a time of 10:15.81.
 
Collins returned in the 5000-meter run to finish first again, this time he finished with a 17:01.14. Zaire Blevins set a new personal best with 18:04.29 for second.
 
The women's 4x100 relay team of Shani Simon, Trinity Bolden, Trinity Kirk and A'niya Galloway finished with a time of 47.03 for a third-place finish. Derick Washington, Clydeterrious Thompson, Jordan Thompson and Rodney Johnson, Jr. finish fourth with a time of 40.74 for the men.
 
Bryce Campbell finished with a time of 4:13.4 for an eighth-place finish in the men's 1500, just a second behind his personal best.
 
Finishing sixth and seventh, Sierra Session and Daisa McKissic finished with times of 15.13 and 15.23 respectively. Jordan Thompson finished second for the men with a time of 14.44. Terrell Chevalier finished sixth at 15.19.

The final outdoor meet of the regular season will take place on April 22 at LSU for the Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
