BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University's
Tashina Alase and
Ariyonna Edmond were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Friday.
Alase turned in a dominant performance at the Pelican Relays, capturing first-place finishes in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles. The senior opened with a personal-best 11.68 in the 100m, then followed with a 24.07 in the 200m. She capped her meet with another personal-best effort of 13.01 in the 100m hurdles, a mark that ranks fifth in the East Region and eighth nationally this season.
Edmond added to the Lady Jaguars' success with two victories of her own in the field events. The junior recorded personal-best throws in both the shot put and hammer throw, reaching 13.37 meters (43-10.5) in the shot put and 52.57 meters (172-6) in the hammer.
The honor marks Alase's second weekly award of the outdoor season and the first for Edmond
