BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University Track & Field is set to host the Pelican Relays on April 10–11, welcoming collegiate and high school competition to Baton Rouge for a two-day meet packed with field and running events.
Action begins Thursday, April 10, with field events kicking off at 12 p.m. as the men's hammer throw (followed by women) and women's javelin (followed by men) open the meet. High school field events will begin at 4 p.m.
Running events on Thursday start at 4 p.m. with the women's 200 meters, followed by the men's 200 meters at 4:20 p.m. Distance events highlight the evening with the women's 5000 meters at 4:40 p.m. and the men's 5000 meters to follow. The day concludes with the men's 4x800 relay at 5:30 p.m., while high school running events begin at 6 p.m.
Competition resumes Friday, April 11, with a full slate of field events beginning at 10 a.m., including the women's discus, long jump (women in Pit 1, men in Pit 2), and men's shot put. The vertical and horizontal jumps continue into the afternoon with the women's high jump at noon, men's triple jump at 12:30 p.m. (Pit 1), women's triple jump at 12:30 p.m. (Pit 2), and the men's pole vault at 1 p.m.
Friday's running events begin with the national anthem at 12:20 p.m., followed by a fast-paced schedule on the track. Relay action starts at 1:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay and the men's 4x100 at 1:35 p.m. Mid-distance races follow with the women's 1500 meters at 1:40 p.m. and the men's 1500 meters at 1:55 p.m.
Hurdles and sprints take center stage in the afternoon, beginning with the women's 100 hurdles at 2:10 p.m. and the men's 110 hurdles at 2:20 p.m. The 400-meter races are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (women) and 2:40 p.m. (men), followed by the 100-meter dashes at 2:50 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).
The meet continues with the 800 meters at 3:10 p.m. (women) and 3:20 p.m. (men), before closing out the hurdles with the women's 400 hurdles at 3:30 p.m. and men's at 3:40 p.m. Distance events wrap up the individual races with the women's 3000 meters at 3:50 p.m. and the men's 3000 meters at 4:05 p.m.
The Pelican Relays conclude with the 4x400 relays, beginning with the women at 4:20 p.m. and the men at 4:35 p.m.
