Southern Dominates Arkansas Pine Bluff at Home

The Jaguars picked up thirteen runs off twelve hits on the day. In the first inning the Jags had bases loaded when Tremaine Spears was walked to send Jovante Dorris across home plate to give SU their first run of the day. JJ Rollon scored on a passed ball to give the Jags an early 2-0 lead over the Golden Lions. Porter took his third pitch 375 feet across the right field wall  to pick up his 21st RBI on the season off a three-run homer. Latulas took his first pitch of the day 395 feet over the center field wall to give the Jags a 6-0 lead over the Golden Lions. Caleb Tart singled to left field sending Hunter Tabb racing across home plate to give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead. In the fifth inning O'Neill Burgos scored his second run of the day.  In the eighth inning Burgos hits a line drive to the left field wall to send Jovante Dorris and Jaylen Armstrong home to give. the Jags a 10-4 lead. Spears hits the Jaguars third home run of the day to pick up his 34th RBI of the season. Tabb singled to the left field wall to send Porter home to give the Jags their final run of the day.  

"Joseph Battaglia did what he always does and the bats gave him a lead early to settle in and compete! Offensively we had some time hits led by back to back home runs from Taj Porter and Michael Latulas, said Chris Crenshaw, Southern Head Coach. 

Battaglia picks up his sixth win of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from Burgos with three runs. Dorris, Spears and Porter with two runs each. Rollon, Armstrong, Tabb and Latulas with one run each.

SU is 16-27, 13-9 SWAC on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Saturday for game two of the weekend series against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. First pitch is slated for 3 PM.
