BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern University baseball team gets off to a slow start in the first couple inning but picked up the intensity in the third inning and never looked back knocking off Arkansas-Pine Bluff 7-4 to capture the weekend series in front of 268 fans inside Lee-Hines Stadium.
SU picked up three runs in the third inning to ignite their scoring picking up two runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the eighth inning.
The Jaguars picked up seven runs off eight hits on the day. In the third inning the Jaguars got their first runner on base when
Caleb Tart was hit in the back by a pitch. Jaylen Armstrong singled through the left side to send Tart home to give the Jags their first run of the day. O'Neill Burgos hit a line drive up the middle of the field to send Armstrong and Jovante Dorris home to give the Jags a quick 3-0 lead over the Golden Lions. In the fourth inning Taj Porter scored on a fielder's choice from Tart. Armstrong tripled to left field sending Tart. home to give SU a commanding 5-0 lead over UAPB. In the eighth inning Hunter Tabb singled to left field to send Porter home to pick up his second run of the day. Nathaniel Lai scored the Jags seventh and final run of the day off a throwing error from the Golden Lions catcher.
Anthony Fidanza picks up his fourth win of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from
Porter and Tart with two runs each. Armstrong, Dorris and Lai with one run each.
SU is 17-27, 14-9 SWAC on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Sunday afternoon for game three of the weekend series against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. First pitch is slated for 1 PM.
