ARLINGTON, TX – Looking to finish the season on a strong note, the Lady Jaguars (48-44, 17-11 SWAC) are looking to claim a Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament championship when they hit the lanes on March 25-27 at the International Bowling Training and Research Center (ITRC) located in Arlington, Texas. All three days of tournament play are going to be streamed on BowlTV while ESPNU will show a replay on April 6.
The three-day event will feature the leagues' top six teams from the regular season. Southern claimed the third seed after finishing 17-11 in SWAC play. Other tournament teams include regular season champion Prairie View A&M (24-4), Alabama State (19-9), Texas Southern (15-13), Jackson State (14-14) and Florida A&M (12-16).
The tournament will consist of five traditional games on Friday to determine the championship bracket. Total pinfall from these matches will decide the seeding for the double-elimination tournament.
After the teams are seeded 1-6, top two seeds will receive a bye, teams will compete in the best 4-of-7 Baker style matches. Baker games consist of five bowlers completing one game with each bowler completing two frames: 1
st and 6
th, 2
nd and 7
th, 3
rd and 8
th, 4
th and 9
th, 5
th and 10
th.
The tournament will be double elimination giving the Lady Jaguars an opportunity to adjust as needed.
The Lady Jaguars have met these teams a combined 50 times throughout the season. They have faced off against JSU the most at 16 times and has gone 12-4 against the Tigers.
Southern is led by their freshman class.
Jailyn Rogers currently leads the pack with a 186 average. She is followed by junior
Alanna Coward with a 178.63. Rounding out the rest of the top-five are fellow freshman
Nyla Wilson (178.60),
Hannah Grather (178.09) and
Kelsey Quinney (170.71).
