BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University bowling team will take part in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, beginning on March 20.

Southern enters the tournament following a sixth-place finish at the TNBA Open on March 1. The Lady Jaguars opened the tournament with wins over Grambling and Oklahoma Christian, then added victories against Alabama State, Grambling and Central Missouri on day two. Southern capped the weekend by defeating Alabama State in bracket play on the final day.
 
The Lady Jaguars will open the SWAC Championships against Alabama A&M in the Mega-Match format. The opening set will feature a traditional team game, with the highest five-game total determining the winner. The second set will be a five-game Baker match, with total pinfall again deciding the outcome. If the teams are tied after the first two sets, a best-of-seven Baker match will be used to determine the winner.
 
Second Team All-SWAC selection Maria Molina Diaz leads the Lady Jaguars with a team-best 202 average this season. During SWAC play, the freshman totaled 4,219 pins over 23 games for a 183.43 average, finishing seventh overall. She has earned multiple All-Tournament honors, highlighted by a tournament MVP performance at the Southern Queens, where she recorded 1,051 pins for a 210.2 average.
 
Alanna Jones has also provided consistency in the lineup, averaging 187.8 with multiple top-25 finishes this season. Darian Mobley and Za'Viara Williams continue to be steady contributors as well, posting season averages of 169 and 168, respectively.
