LAFAYETTE, LA – The Jaguars are set to kick off the outdoor portion of their schedule with a trip down I-10 for the Louisiana Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana Friday and Saturday at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility in Lafayette.
"We are excited to start the outdoor season," Head Coach
Teremine White said. "We were able to get in much needed training these past four weeks."
The meet kicks off on Friday afternoon with the javelin and discus at 3pm. The only running events set for Friday is the 200m and 10k. Saturday will start with the throwing and jumping events picking back up at 10am while the running events will start at 1:30pm.
The final indoor meet saw three Jaguars claim the SWAC Championship while four others claimed All-SWAC honors.
Trinity Bolden set a school record of 7.4 seconds in the 60m to claim gold. Bolden was a regional qualifier last year in the 100m and is looking to leave more marks in the record books.
Alexandria McCoy and
Jazzmine Poole are also looking at building off last years success. McCoy was conference champion in the hammer throw and Poole finished third in the discus.
Nicholas Scott,
DeAnthony Nervis,
Kason Jones and
Jordan Thompson are all looking to continue to team up for one of the best 4x400 teams in the conference. The group finished second at the SWAC Indoor to claim All-SWAC honors.
Scott and
Char'Vares Wilson also claimed gold at the SWAC Indoor. Scott took the crown in the 800m for his final indoor meet of his college career. Wilson surprised many with her took home the weight throw with a long of 16.22m.
The Jaguars are hoping this meet will set them up for season long success.
Hopefully, the weather is good, and we can get some good times and distances," said White. "If the athletes are having fun, everything will work out for us."
