Alase Sets NCAA Lead, Posts No. 2 Time in the World

4/25/2026 8:01:00 PM

BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University senior Tashina Alase delivered a statement performance Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold, clocking the fastest time in the NCAA this season and the No. 2 mark in the world in the women's 100-meter hurdles.

Alase surged to a meet-winning time of 12.71 (+1.8), establishing herself as the national leader while continuing her rapid ascent on the global stage. The mark was just 0.04 seconds behind the world lead of 12.67 set by Marione Fourie from South America.

The performance carries even greater significance as Alase was sidelined her for the final five meets of last season due to injury, underscoring both her resilience and elite form.

Beyond her signature event, Alase added a time of 23.81 in the 200 meters and helped Southern's 4x100-meter relay team to a fifth-place finish in 45.47.

Southern recorded multiple top-eight finishes across the meet, highlighted by Roman Smith's runner-up performance in the men's high jump. The senior cleared 2.11m (6-11.00) to secure second place.

Freshman Taylor Hankton continued her breakout season in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fifth in 58.41—a mark that ranks No. 1 among HBCU athletes this year.

In the field, Koi Wedderburn finished sixth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.17m (23-6.25), while Herman Batiste added two top-eight finishes, placing eighth in both the high jump (2.01m) and long jump (7.05m).

Sahnya Lathon cleared 1.68m (5-6.00) to place sixth in the women's high jump, and Ayanna Hunt led Southern's throwers with a ninth-place mark of 49.05m (160-11) in the hammer throw.

On the track, Omari Dupas placed fifth in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.29, while the Jaguars' men's 4x100-meter relay team finished sixth in 40.55
