MILWAUKEE, WI -- The Southern University women's basketball team falls short to Marquette in front of 785 fans inside Al McGuire Center on the campus of Marquette University. Final score was 40-65.
The Lady Jaguars battled back and forth going into the half only trailing by six points. In the second half MU defensive intensity picked up forcing SU to only making fifteen point in the second half.
"We did a much better job defensively today but we still missed a lot of easy shots said
Carlos Funchess, SU Head Coach. Our offensive execution wasn't bad but we need to clean up a few things. I was proud of the effort that the team put forth and we will continue to work to get better."
Senior guard
Nakia Kincey led the Lady Jags with nine points, four rebounds and one steal. Kayla Watson and Genovea Johnson finished the day with six points each. Taneara Moore chipped in four points, four boards and four steals.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Generals to 25 turnovers, picking up 11 points off turnovers. SU played all fourteen players with eleven landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 27 percent for the game (17-63) and 13 percent from behind the arc (2-15). SU shot a 100 percent from the charity stripe finishing (4-4)
The Lady Golden Eagles finished the day with three players in double-digits, Liza Karhen with 12 points along with Karissa McLaughlin and Chloe Marotta with 10 points, respectively.
UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action on Wednesday, November 17th at Iowa in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the campus of University of Iowa. The game is slated for a 6:30 PM tipoff.
