BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Southern University men's and women's track and field team is set to open the 2021 indoor season on Saturday when they compete at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. starting with field events and the men's weight throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1:00pm, the final event of the meet will be the men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:30 p.m.
The one-day meet will feature 11 in-state teams, the non-scoring meet includes host LSU, Grambling State, ULM, ULL, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and Tulane.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, spectators will not be allowed entry in Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
After having the 2020 outdoor season canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, SU will have a chance to compete for the first time in 315 days after both the men's and women's team won the Jett Relay's in Dallas, TX.
