BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University's
Sahnya Lathon has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Co-Field Athlete of the Week following a standout performance at the Strawberry Relays, where she recorded two event victories and helped lead the Lady Jaguars to a first-place team finish.
The senior opened her meet with a season-best clearance of 1.70m (5-7) in the high jump to secure the gold medal. The mark ranks her 77th in the East Region and places her just outside the top 100 nationally this season.
Lathon continued her strong showing with a personal-best leap of 12.16m (39-10.75) in the triple jump, earning her second event win in as many attempts. The mark surpassed her previous best of 12.00m (39-4.5), set at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational on March 28.
She accounted for 20 points toward Southern's team total of 174 points, as the Lady Jaguars finished 78.5 points ahead of the runner-up.
This marks Lathon's second SWAC Field Athlete of the Week honor this season. She previously earned the recognition after winning the high jump and placing second in the triple jump at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational.
