BATON ROUGE - The Southern University Men's and Women's Track and Field team opened up their season Friday at the Purple Tiger Invitational at Louisiana State University.
The Jaguars had three athletes set personal records in today's meet. Including, Alexandria McCoy in the weight throw, throwing a best of 16.39 meters (53'09"). Jordan Thompson in the 60-meter hurdles running a best of 8.55. Lastly, Da'on Acosta in the Triple Jump, with a jump of 11.08 meters (36'04").
Senior, Terralicia Mercadel finished second in the 400- meter with a time of 58.50. Mercadel finished fourth at the 2019 Southwestern Conference Championship with a time of 56.17.
The women's 4x400-meter team, (Ashley Miles, Jada Childers, Raelynn Price, and Terralicia Mercadel) finished third out of seven teams with a time of 3:58.47. The women finished third at the 2019 SWAC Conference Championship.
Senior, Derrick Garner finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.13.
Nicholas Scott took third in the 800-meter run with a time 1:58.17. Scott ended the 2019 indoor season placing sixth at the SWAC Indoor SWAC Conference Championship.
Charvares Wilson took third in the shot put with a throw 14.02 meters (46'). Wilson finished third at the 2019 SWAC Conference Championships.
There was no official team scoring but both men's and women's teams had a great start their indoor season.
Coach Teremine White said, "Watching the team today focus was doing better than last year's start and for the most part our kid's performance was better.

The Track and Field team will travel next weekend to Houston, TX, Friday, January 17 competing at the University of Houston.
