Southern University women's tennis opened the 2014 season with a 5-1 loss to LSU at "Dub Robinson Stadium Sunday evening.
The Lady Jaguars lone point of the match was awarded to Camara Davis by default.
LSU claimed the doubles point after Abigail Owens and Mary Jeremiah defeated Morgan Taylor and Camara Davis 6-2. In singles action, Southern went on to fall in four singles matches after one point was awarded to Davis.
Laura Syori fell to Joana Vale Costa 6-0, 6-1 before Gabrielle Morgan fell to Ella Taylor in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Morgan Taylor produced Southern most competitive effort by winning two games in each set before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Abigail Owens. Kendall Bunch relinquished the match clinching point to Skylar Holloway 6-2, 6-0.
Darnesha Moore match was halted with the freshman down one set (6-4) and trailing 2-0 to Mary Jeremiah.
Southern will host UL Monroe at University Courts for its 2014 home opener Jan. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
