Jaguars top Tommies in Tuesday afternoon match

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Southern University women's tennis team returned to the bluff with a home match against St. Thomas on Tuesday afternoon. The Jaguars topped the Tommies in the first matchup between the two squads, 5-2.  
 
RECAP  
The Jaguars earned the doubles point to open the match, taking the early 1-0 lead in the dual. The Jaguars went on to win four singles matches, claiming the 5-2 victory at their home courts. 
 
In the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots, Jessica Hess (7-5, 6-2), Shahd Habib (6-2, DNF) and Baluck Deang (6-1, 7-5) defeated their opponents in straight sets, recording the wins for the Jags.  
   
Competing in the top-singles spot, Paris Washington fell 5-7 in the first set of the match, but flipped the script and won the next two sets (6-1, 6-2) to claim the victory.  
 
UP NEXT
The Jaguars will be back in action against Fordham on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
