For the first time in Southern University Tennis history, the Lady Jaguars yielded a 4-3 victory over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
This time, the Lady Jaguars defeated the Golden Eagles at the University of Southern Mississippi Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb 5. Senior Kathryn Curtis posted the fourth point for Southern as she defeated Stephanie Dellocono in three sets.
Though Southern Miss won the first 2 points of the day by clinching the doubles point and the #4 singles court. The Lady Jaguars responded as Senior Jo'Vonna Gaines came up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Askew to cut into the Southern Miss lead. On court 3 Sophmore Demetria Woods lost to put Southern Miss up 3-1. With 3 matches still on court the Lady Jaguars rallied, first with Lois Alexis winning on court 6, Carlista Mohammed winning on court 1 and Kathryn Curtis winning on court 2, with a Relentless Spirit
to overcome their odds and win the match.
The Lady Jaguars will play next weekend as they head to North Louisiana for a 2:00p.m. match against Louisiana Tech on Friday and a 10:00a.m. match against ULM on Saturday.
