Southern Baseball Peaking at the Perfect Time

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Winners of 15 straight conference games and riding one of the hottest streaks in college baseball, the Jaguars are charging into tournament play with confidence, momentum, and championship expectations. Southern enters the postseason as the No. 2 seed after dominating conference play, posting a remarkable 16-2 conference record and remaining unbeaten in league action since April 4.

The Jaguars' offense has become one of the most dangerous units in the conference. Southern is batting .321 in conference play with 245 runs scored and 82 extra-base hits against league opponents. The lineup has exploded late in the season, hitting .376 as a team in May while slugging .537 over the final stretch.

Leading the charge is KJ White Jr., who is hitting an eye-popping .418 with 71 hits and 28 stolen bases, while Ryan Hunter has added 63 hits and 36 RBI's. Jaylon Lucky has been another catalyst, batting .336 with 16 doubles and 37 RBI's, while Jacoby Radcliffe has delivered power and speed with 4 home runs and 35 stolen bases.

Southern's recent run has been nothing short of dominant. Since the Jaguars' last conference loss on April 4, they have swept Grambling, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Mississippi Valley State, and Alabama A&M while consistently producing double-digit offensive performances. The Jaguars closed the regular season with six straight wins, including scoring 37 runs in their final three games against Alabama A&M.

The Jaguars will also lean on the experience of head coach Chris Crenshaw, who knows what it takes to navigate tournament baseball. Crenshaw guided Southern to a conference tournament championship in 2021 and returned to the title game again in 2022 in a historic five-hour championship battle that remains one of the most memorable games in recent tournament history. That postseason experience could prove invaluable as the Jaguars prepare for another deep run.

On the mound, Bobby Spencer and Myles Dismute have anchored the pitching staff throughout the season. Spencer recorded 71 strikeouts and seven wins, while Dismute added seven victories and 58 strikeouts of his own. Caleb Ellis and Genesis Prosper has also been a key late-game weapon with seven saves out of the bullpen.

The Jaguars have also been aggressive on the base paths all season long, swiping 134 stolen bases and using their speed to pressure opposing defenses. Combined with timely hitting and improved defense late in the season, Southern enters the tournament playing its best baseball at exactly the right time.

Now, with a 15-game conference win streak, a No. 2 seed, and unmatched momentum, the Jaguars are poised to make a serious championship run as one of the hottest teams in college baseball today.
