HUMBLE, Texas — Southern University's bowling team turned in a gritty effort on Saturday, battling through a challenging slate on the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Roundup.
 
The Lady Jaguars totaled 4,299 pins across 25 traditional games, averaging 171.96 pins per game on the day.
 
Southern entered Day Two with just one loss and set its sights on handing Jackson State its first defeat of the tournament. The Lady Jaguars came up just short in a tightly contested matchup, falling 922–919. Maria Molina Diaz anchored the lineup with a team-high 214, while Mikayla Stephens added a 183 and Angel Stein followed with a 180. Alanna Jones chipped in with a 175.
 
Southern picked up its lone win of the day in another nail-biter, edging Prairie View A&M 856–851. Jones paced the Lady Jaguars with a 195, while Molina Diaz rolled a 185. Stephens continued her consistent play with a 175.
 
In the third match, four Lady Jaguars shot over 170, but it was not enough to overcome Alabama State in a 939–886 setback. Darian Mobley became the third different Southern bowler to lead the team on the day with a 191. Molina Diaz posted a 189, Stein recorded a 173, and Jones added a 170.
 
The Lady Jaguars dropped their final two matches of the day, falling 905–865 to Florida A&M and 863–773 to Texas Southern. Against the Rattlers, Jones led the way with a 185, Stephens followed with a 181, and Molina Diaz closed out the day with a 175.
 
Through 10 matches, Jones leads Southern in total pins with 1,740 (174.0 average). Molina Diaz holds the team's top average at 185.8 after five games (929 total pins). Stein has totaled 1,392 pins (174.0 average) over eight games, while Stephens has recorded 1,717 pins (171.7 average) and Mobley has added 1,708 pins (170.8 average) through all 10 matches.

The SWAC West Roundup will conclude on Sunday with four more traditional games. Southern will take on Grambling, Alabama A&M, Jackson State, and Prairie View A&M.
