HUMBLE, Texas — Southern University's bowling team turned in a strong opening-day performance at the 2026 SWAC West Roundup I, posting a 4–1 record and sitting third overall after day one of competition.
The Lady Jaguars totaled 4,357 pins across 25 traditional games, averaging 174.3 pins per game, and rattled off four consecutive wins following an opening setback.
Southern opened the tournament with an 845–768 loss to Alabama State, despite a solid effort from
Darian Mobley, who led the Jaguars with a 174.
The Lady Jaguars quickly rebounded, igniting a winning streak with an 886–817 victory over Florida A&M. Freshman
Alanna Jones, bowling less than an hour from her hometown of Katy, Texas, sparked the lineup with a 203.
Angel Stein and
Mikayla Stephens added consistent support, rolling 185 and 182, respectively.
Southern continued its momentum with an 869–808 win over Texas Southern. Jones once again led the way with a 190, followed closely by Mobley's 180. Stephens chipped in a 172, while
Za'Viara Williams posted a 171 to round out the scoring.
The Lady Jaguars then delivered their most decisive win of the day, cruising past Grambling State 907–608. Stein recorded Southern's highest game of the day with a 216, while Williams followed with a 199 and Mobley added a 178.
Southern capped off day one with its strongest performance, edging Alabama A&M 927–887. All five Jaguars finished above 175, led by Mobley's 200. Stephens followed with a 191, Jones added 183, and Williams (177) and Stein (176) provided balanced scoring to secure the victory.
Individually, Southern was paced by the steady bowling of Mobley, who posted a team-best 178.0 average over five games (890). Stein followed with an 886 total (177.2), while Stephens finished close behind at 882 (176.4). Jones rounded out the top performers with an 856 total (171.2).

Southern returns to action on day two against league-leading Jackson State before facing Prairie View A&M. The Lady Jaguars will then begin the rotation again with Alabama State and close the day against Florida A&M and Texas Southern.
