Southern University Athletics Leading the Way: A Tribute to Women in Athletics

In celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, Southern University Athletics proudly hosted a powerful and inspiring event honoring the trailblazing women in athletics. This special occasion, "A Tribute to Women in Athletics," not only celebrated the achievements of women in sports but also underscored the athletic department's commitment to empowering and uplifting women across all athletic disciplines.

The event was made possible with the generous support of Alliant Insurance, whose partnership continues to support the growth and recognition of women in sports. A heartfelt thank you to Alliant Insurance for their dedication to making this event a success.

One of the highlights of the day was an electrifying fireside chat featuring guest speaker Jennifer Lynne Williams (USA Basketball), a renowned advocate for women in sports. Williams engaged in a thought-provoking conversation with Southern University's Chief of Staff, Ajohnee Rodney. Their candid dialogue covered a range of topics, from overcoming challenges to breaking barriers in athletics, offering valuable insights into the experiences of women in the industry.

The event also brought together an inspiring group of women from across the state of Louisiana and the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) member institutions. Female athletes, coaches, and leaders from various athletic departments gathered to connect, share their experiences, and celebrate the power of women in sports.

Southern University Athletics is proud to lead this important conversation and looks forward to making "A Tribute to Women in Athletics" an annual event, said Athletic Director Roman Banks. "We want to continue to amplify the voices of women in athletics and create a space where their contributions are not only acknowledged but celebrated," Banks emphasized. "This event will grow year after year, honoring women who have been trailblazers in the field and inspiring future generations."

This remarkable event reaffirmed Southern University Athletics' commitment to championing gender equity in sports, empowering women, and providing a platform to highlight their significant achievements both on and off the field. We look forward to seeing how this event will continue to inspire and celebrate women in athletics for years to come.
