BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern University freshman Maria Molina Diaz has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Bowler of the Week, the league announced Friday.
 
Molina Diaz continued her strong start to the season with another standout performance, finishing eighth overall in a competitive field of more than 120 bowlers. She turned in her second straight five-game set in the plus, totaling 1,013 pins for a 202.6 average and becoming one of just 10 bowlers at the event to surpass the 200 mark.
 
The freshman has been a model of consistency early in her collegiate career, placing inside the top 20 in all three tournaments this fall. She recorded her first set in the plus  at the Bulldog Classic with a 1,037 series and opened the season with a 939 effort at the Track Kat Klash.
 
Molina Diaz's weekly honor is the first of her collegiate career.
