Southern Releases 2024 Women’s Soccer Schedule

BATON ROUGE, La. | Southern University head women's soccer coach Jeremy Fontenot announced on Wednesday the 2024 schedule, which includes eight regular season games at home.

"We are excited about the upcoming season," Fontenot said. "We finished the season strong, and we hope to build off that this year. I am truly excited for this team and look forward to the upcoming season as we have a lot of new players, and they will fit in well with the mixture of veterans we have returning from last year."

Of the nine home games, five are against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents.

Southern, which went 8-6-4 overall and 5-1-3 in conference play last season, will have two scrimmages prior to the start of the regular season. The Jaguars will travel to Northwestern State (August 8) and host Xavier University of Louisiana (August 11) at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

SU opens the season on August 15 when they travel to Ole Miss, followed by hosting Louisiana Monroe (August 18), they will travel to South Florida (August 21) before returning home to host Houston Christian (August 25).

Rounding out the last weekend in August, the Jaguars will be on the road for two consecutive games when they travel to Texas Rio Grande Valley (August 29) and North Texas (September 1).

Southern will return home for two consecutive home games, starting on September 6 against Louisiana Christian University and Troy University (September 8).

SU will close its non-conference schedule when they travel to Sam Houston State (September 13).

The Blue and Gold will open up SWAC conference play with home games against Alabama State (October 4), Alabama A&M (October 6) which both will be senior weekend recognition, the defending conference champions Grambling State (October 18) Breast Cancer Awareness Game, Arkansas-Pine Bluff (October 20) Mental Health Awareness and Jackson State (November 1) Academic Recognition Night.

The Jaguars have road SWAC games against Prairie View (October 11), Texas Southern (October 13), Alcorn State (October 25) and Mississippi Valley State (October 27).

The 2024 SWAC Women's Soccer Tournament will be held November 7-10.
