PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The Southern University track & field teams are set to take part in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships held at the Prairie View A&M University Track & Field Stadium starting May 4.
Last time out, Southern participated in the LSU Alumni Gold. The Jaguars and Lady Jaguars were able to put up marks to improve their SWAC standings and set several personal bests.
Clydeterrious Thompson currently ranks 10th in the SWAC for the 100m with a time of 10.46 from the Pelican Relays.
Trinity Bolden is fourth on the women's side with a time of 11.74 ran at the LSU Alumni Gold.
DeAnthony Nervis finds himself at sixth in the 200m with a time of 20.93 from the Battle on the Bayou at LSU.
Nicholas Scott and
Rushane Miller hold the two fastest times in the conference this season in the 800m. Scott ran a time of 1:48.84 at the LSU Alumni Gold and Miller ran a 1:49.99 at the Pelican Relays.
Camille Lewis is fourth on the women's side with a time of 2:14.50 at the Pelican Relays.
Lafayette Collins' time of 16:20.61 in the 5000m at the Pelican Relays lands him in sixth.
Jordan Thompson currently finds himself first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.96 from the Texas Relays.
Daisa McKissic ran a 14.54 in the 100m hurdles at the Pelican Relays for a seventh-place spot in the conference.
Jordan Thompson also holds the top spot in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.17 at the LSU Alumni Gold.
Camille Lewis is second for the women with a time of 1:00.41 at the Texas Relays.
Sierra Session ran a 1:02.47 at the Pelican Relays to sit fourth.
Collins ran a 10:15.81 in the 3000 Steeplechase at the Strawberry Relays to find himself in eight in the SWAC.
The men's 4x100 team of
Derick Washington,
Clydeterrious Thompson,
Jordan Thompson and Nervis are sitting at fourth with a time of 40.69 ran at the Battle on the Bayou.
A'niya Galloway, Bolden,
Trinity Kirk and
Malaysia Sinegal had a time of 46.87 at the Pelican Relays that puts them sixth.
In the 4x400, the team of
Rodney Johnson, Jr., Scott,
Ta'Cardrick Alexander and
Jordan Thompson sit fourth with a time of 3:12.04 from the LSU Alumni Gold. The women's team of
Shani Simon, Kirk,
Camille Lewis and Session ran a 3:48.24 at the Pelican Relays for seventh.
In the high jump,
Sahnya Lathon had a height of 5 feet 4.25 inches at the LSU Battle on the Bayou to sit fourth in the conference.
Azariah Foster had a jump of 18 feet 4.25 inches in the long jump at the LSU Battle on the Bayou for a 10th place spot.
Kevon Hamilton sits fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 48 feet 11.5 inches from the LSU Alumni Gold.
Demarion Sowell sits ninth with a distance of 47 feet 0.75 inches at the LSU Battle on the Bayou. Foster had a distance of 39 feet 10.75 inches at the Pelican Relays to put her in second. Lathon and
Yahria Bass are also inside the top 10 on the women's side. Lathon had a distance of 38 feet 3.25 inches at the Jim Mize Invitational for sixth and Bass had a distance of 37 feet 9.5 inches at the Pelican Relays for eighth.
In the shot put,
Char'Vares Wilson sits fourth with a throw of 50 feet 6 inches to hold onto fourth from the Bobcat Invitational.
Keenan Villery is sixth with a throw of 48 feet 1.25 inches at the LSU Battle on the Bayou.
A'ja Gore is in fourth and
Lawrenee' Hart is in sixth on the women's side. Gore had a throw of 45 feet 1.5 inches at the LSU Battle on the Bayou and Hart had a throw of 43 feet 10.75 inches at the Pelican Relays.
Wilson sits ninth in the discus from his throw of 140 feet 2 inches at the Pelican Relays.
Logan Lewis set the top mark on the women's side at the Battle on the Bayou with a throw of 146 feet 8 inches. Hart is also in the top 5 at fourth with a throw of 135 feet 8 inches at the Pelican Relays.
Wilson has another top mark, this time in the hammer throw with a distance of 166 feet at the Pelican Relays.
Logan Lewis is second for the women with a throw of 168 feet 5 inches at the Battle on the Bayou. Hart sits sixth with a throw of 160 feet 6 inches at the Pelican Relays and Gore is seventh with a distance of 157 feet at from the Battle on the Bayou.
In the javelin, Villery is fourth from the Jim Mize Invitational with a throw of 162 feet.
Uzuri Graves and
Kinzli Zenon are second and third for the women. Graves had a throw of 123 feet 7 inches at the Pelican Relays and Zenon's throw from the Battle on the Bayou went 118 feet 6 inches.
Karanay Alexander had a throw of 102 feet 6 inches at the Pelican Relays that put her sixth.
The 2023 SWAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be streamed live on Saturday, May 6 with event coverage starting at 5:00 pm CST on the
SWAC Digital Network.
The women's 4 x 100 relay will start the broadcast followed by the men's 4 x 100 relay.
