Nicholas Scott wins 800, 31 Finish in Top 10 at Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern's track and field teams are set to be in action at the Battle on the Bayou at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU on March 25.
 
Logan Lewis, A'ja Gore and Lawrenee' Hart got things started for Southern in the women's hammer throw. Logan Lewis broke her personal best three times, but it was her last throw of 168 feet 5 inches that gave her a fifth-place finish. Gore finished in eighth with her own personal best of 157 feet. Hart fell just short of hers but did finish in 10th with a throw of 148 feet. Charvares Wilson finished ninth for the men with his personal best of 147 feet 6 inches.
 
Gore would come back and set another personal best in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet 1.5 inches to finish fifth. Lewis would finish eighth with a throw of 44 feet 0.5 inches. Wilson would notch another top 10 finish on the men's side with a throw of 48 feet 8.25 inches, claiming fifth. Keenan Villery would finish seventh with a distance of 48 feet 1.25 inches.
 
Azariah Foster would be another Southern athlete to set a personal best with a long jump of 18 feet 4.25 inches to finish sixth.
 
Logan Lewis would set her second personal best and finish in the top 10 in a third event in the discus. Logan Lewis would finish seventh with a throw of 146 feet 8 inches.
 
In the javelin, Villery would finish fifth with a throw of 154 feet. Kinzli Zenon would finish with a throw of 118 feet 5 inches to finish eighth on the women's side.
 
Sahnya Lathon would finish fourth in the high jump with a height of 5 feet 4.25 inches.
 
Kevon Hamilton finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 48 feet 9 inches. A distance of 47 feet 0.75 inches would set a new personal best and give Demarion Sowell a fourth place finish. Foster would finish eighth for the women with a jump of 36 feet 11.5 inches.
 
The men's 4x100 relay team of Derick Washington, Clydeterrious Thompson, Jordan Thompson and DeAnthony Nervis would start the running events with a fifth place finish at a time of 40.69.
 
Jordan Thompson would come right back in the men's 110m hurdles to finish second with a personal best time of 14.07.
 
Shani Simon and Soteria Gibbs would give the Lady Jaguars more top 10 finishes. Simon would finish fourth with a time of 57.95. Gibbs, in her first time running the 400 on the collegiate level, would finish 10th with a time of 1:03.3.
 
Trinity Bolden and A'niya Galloway continued to rack up top 10 finishes for Southern. Bolden finished fourth with a time of 11.76. Galloway would set a personal best of 12.1 to finish ninth. Clydeterrious Thompson would finish 10th on the men's side with a time of 10.58, setting a new personal best.
 
Camille Lewis would win her heat and finish fifth overall in the 800 with a new personal best of 2:14.58. Nicholas Scott would win the overall title on the men's side with a time of 1:49.93. TaCardrick Alexander would win his heat with a personal best of 1:54.29 to finish eighth overall.
 
Sierra Session would run her way to a personal best of 1:03.78 in the 400m hurdles to finish sixth.
 
Galloway and Malaysia Sinegal would push each other to new personal best in the 200. Galloway finished with a time of 24.96 to finish eighth. Sinegal would finish right behind her in ninth with a time of 25.05. DeAnthony Nervis is known for his 200m times, and he did not disappoint. Nervis would finish as the second fastest collegiate runner and third overall with a time of 20.93. Clydeterrious Thompson would finish 10th at a time of 21.49.
 
In the final event of the meet, the 4x400, the team of Simon Camille Lewis, Galloway and Sessions finished fifth with a time of 3:52.42. The team of Jordan Thompson, Scott, Alexander and Clydeterrious Thompson closed the meet out in third with a time of 3:12.83.

UP NEXT
Southern is set to travel to Texas for two meets as they will participate in the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational. A select group of athletes will travel to Austin, Texas for the world famous Texas Relays on March 29-April 1. The rest of the Jaguars and Lady Jaguars will travel to San Marcos, Texas for the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State on March 30-April 1.
