ARLINGTON, TX – After winning their first Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship since 2011, Southern's bowling team has their eyes on the season sweep at the SWAC Championships on March 24-26 at the International Training and Research Center (ITRC) in Arlington, Texas.
"It is tournament time," head coach
Barry Doyle said. "All the work we put in this season is for this moment. We had a great two weeks of practice. The ladies seem poised and ready to win it all."
The regular season championship gave Southern (59-47, 20-8) a first round by and will only have to win two matches to make it to the championship on Sunday. The Lady Jaguars will open the tournament at 1 p.m. on Friday against the winner of No. 4 Texas Southern and No. 5 Florida A&M.
The SWAC Championship Tournament will consist of the mega match format. The mega match format is a best-of-three that consists of a five-person traditional game, five Baker matchers and best-of-seven Baker matches. The first team to two will move on to the next round.
Southern is led by first team All-SWAC recipient
Jailyn Rogers with a 194.05 average on the year. Senior
Alanna Coward garnered second team All-SWAC honors and has a 185.2 average.
Kelsey Quinney, 179.2,
Nyla Wilson, 175.26,
Raja Anderson, 170.92,
Kymberly Jackson, 169.82, and
Lindsey Ugas, 167, are the other key contributors to the team.
"We had a great practice session today," Doyle said. "The confidence is at an all time high. We are ready to let these Jaguars roar for a chance at the SWAC tournament title and fulfill all of our goals we set at the beginning of the year."
If Southern wins on Friday, they will not bowl again until 1 p.m. on Saturday. If the Lady Jaguars lose the first match, they will be back in action at 9 a.m. Saturday.

BowlTV. Championship Sunday will be streamed on tape delay on ESPN+ on April 3.
