ATLANTA – Southern University's bowling team returns to the lanes in Atlanta for the TNBA/HBCU Invitational hosted by Jackson State University from March 3-5.
"We are anxious to get back on the lanes," head coach
Barry Doyle said. "We had a few weeks to concentrate on the books and rest our arms. The girls are ready to get back out on the lanes. They love the HBCU tournament and look forward to it every year."
Last time out, the Lady Jaguars finished fifth at the Lady Techsters Classic, the only teams to finish ahead were all ranked inside the top 25.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season champions will look to finish out the regular season strong before the SWAC Championship.
"This will be our final tune up before the SWAC tournament," Doyle continued We look forward to competing and finishing strong. These ladies are poised and ready to complete the mission, which is win the SWAC tournament and get the automatic bid to the NCAA regionals."
Jailyn Rogers leads the way for the Lady Jaguars with an average of 194.49 for 51 games.
Alanna Coward and
Kelsey Quinney have averages of 185.83 and 181.32, respectively.
Nyla Wilson (175.35),
Kymberly Jackson (172.55),
Raja Anderson (170.42) and
Lindsey Ugas (168.38) round out the scoring for the Lady Jaguars.
The three day tournament will have the Lady Jaguars complete in five Baker games on Friday, five traditional five person team games on Saturday and three best 4-of-7 Baker matches on Sunday in the bracket format.
Other teams in the field include Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bowie State, Florida A&M, Grambling, Jackson State, Norfolk State, Shaw University and Texas Southern.
Southern is 4-1 against AAMU, 3-5 vs ASU, 8-3 vs FAMU, 10-0 vs GSU, 5-4 vs JSU and 5-2 vs TSU this season. The Lady Jaguars have not faced Bowie State, Norfolk State or Shaw University so far this season. Last season, Southern won their lone game against Norfolk State and Bowie State.
