D'IBERVILLE, MS Southern University returns to the lanes to open their spring schedule at the first of two Southwestern Athletic Conference Round-Up at Cypress Lanes in D'Iberville, Mississippi on Friday morning. The two tournaments will determine the regular season SWAC champion.

The Lady Jaguars are coming off an impressive fall schedule in which they defeated five ranked teams. They finished the first half of the season with a 25-26 overall record, with 18 matches against teams ranked in the top-25.

"We have been looking forward to getting back to SWAC competition," head coach Barry Doyle said. "The majority of the team from last year is back. The team is focused on the goal of winning it all this year. We want to send the seniors out on top."

The round-up will host to all eight SWAC teams, with each team bowling 14 traditional games, a break in the normal 5-5-3 format.

Friday will see the action begin at 10 a.m. The Lady Jaguars are set to take on Alabama A&M in the first match of the day. They will then take on the defending SWAC tournament champions in Alabama State. They will round out the day against Jackson State, Texas Southern and Grambling.

Saturday will start at the same time and the Lady Jaguars will take on the defending regular season champions Prairie View A&M to get things rolling. They will then Take on Florida A&M before the schedule rolls into the rematches with games against Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Jackson State.

The teams will be in action an hour earlier on Sunday with matches beginning at 9 a.m. Southern's final four matches will be against Texas Southern, Grambling, Prairie View A&M and Florida A&M.

Last time out, the Lady Jaguars finished fifth at the ISTAP Hornet Classic. Even though they did not finish where they would like, the Lady Jaguars were able to grow and identify areas of improvement that they worked on over the winter break.

Reigning SWAC Freshman of the Year, Jailyn Rogers is looking to better last season's scores that saw her fall just short of Player of the Year honors. Rogers is one of the front runners for that award this year.

"Jailyn seems primed and ready to carry this team and be one of the front runners for Play of the Year," Doyle said. "Nyla Wilson and Kelsey Quinney have made vast improvements and are ready to roar. After reaching the finals last year and coming up short, this team is ready to go clean up some unfinished business."
