CLINTON, Miss. – The Southern University Cross Country teams traveled to Clinton, Mississippi Friday afternoon to compete at The Opener hosted by Mississippi College.
The women got things started at 5:30 p.m. with a 5k around Choctaw Trails.
Shani Simon lead a trio Sophomore Lady Jaguars in the race with a time of 24:55.50. Trinity Kirk and
Kashi Roberts were the other two Southern runners. Kirk competed in her first cross country race and finished with a time of 26:37.40. Roberts finished with a time of 27:28.20.
The men competed in their own 5k that started at 6 p.m. The Jaguars had five runners, giving them enough to compete for team standings. They finished with 153 points for a sixth place finish.
Lafayette Collins and
Nicholas Scott lead the charge for the Jaguars. Collins finished 32 out of 100 runners with a time of 17:16.69. Scott was right on his heals in 33rd at 17:21.57. Bryce Campbell and Christian Phillips competed for the first time as Jaguars. Campbell finished with a time of 17:49.02 and Phillips crossed at 18:11.70. Ta'Cardrick Alexander rounded out the scoring with a time of 19:16.02.
Next Up
The Jaguars will be back in action on September 23 for the LSU Invitational at the University Club. Men will start their 6k at 8:15 a.m. and the women will run a 5k starting at 9 a.m.
