TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Southern University cross country teams capped their 2024 season at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships on Monday afternoon at Apalachee Regional Park, with the women placing fifth and the men finishing seventh overall.

Freshmen Doreen Onchangu and Keeton Johnson led the way for the Jaguars, each earning All-SWAC recognition in their championship debuts.

Weather in the area delayed the start of the women's 5K race to 11 a.m., but it did not slow down the Lady Jaguars. Onchangu delivered a standout performance, posting a personal-best time of 19:00.3 to place fifth overall and secure First Team All-SWAC honors. The freshman came within a second of breaking the 19-minute barrier in one of the strongest fields in recent SWAC championship history.

Fellow freshmen Harden Londan and Christine Lefleur continued their consistent contributions, finishing in scoring positions for Southern. Londan crossed in 20:51.6, followed by Lefleur at 21:13.9. Camille Lewis (21:35.1) and Shaquka Tyrell (22:42.5) completed the scoring for the Lady Jaguars, helping Southern secure 134 points and its top-five team finish.

On the men's side, Johnson delivered a breakthrough race of his own, clocking a personal-best 26:36.9 in the 8K to place seventh overall, earning Second Team All-SWAC honors. Johnson finished just six seconds away from a First Team selection, highlighting his emergence as one of the conference's top young runners. The Jaguars finished seventh overall with 176 points.

Seniors Bryce Campbell (29:26.9) and Christian Phillips (30:13.8) both turned in strong efforts in their final collegiate cross country race. Larry Paul III (31:49.5) and Marcus Delcy (35:13.5) rounded out Southern's scoring, with each runner posting a personal-best performance to close the season.
