Southern Bowling Releases 2022-2023 Schedule

Lady Jaguars will look to build off last seasons SWAC runner-up finish.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern has released the 2022-2023 bowling schedule, which begins on Friday, October 7-9 with a trip to Pensacola, Florida.

"I am very excited about this season," said Head Coach Barry Doyle. "We have lofty goals and expectations after last year. The team as a whole wants to get back to the SWAC title match."

The Lady Jaguars will look to build off last year's runner-up finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Southern will have a total of nine tournaments, two of which were not on last season's schedule.

The season begins with the trip to Florida for the Rattler Invitational hosted by FAMU. The following weekend, the Lady Jaguars will travel to New Orleans and Colonial Lanes for the Colonial Lanes Classic put on by Tulane.

The month of November will see the Lady Jaguars return to the Track Kat Klash in Houston on November 4-6. Last season the Lady Jaguars faced seven ranked opponents in this gauntlet of a tournament. Southern will then finish out the fall portion of the schedule with a trip to Flowood, Mississippi for Jackson States's Sonic Boom Invitational on November 11-13. The Lady Jaguars were able to come away with a top-10 win last season in Mississippi.

SWAC play will begin when the Lady Jaguars return from winter break. The SWAC East and West Roundups will both be in D'Iberville, Mississippi at Cypress Lanes. The first roundup will be January 13-15 followed by the on February 3-5.

The Lady Techsters Classic is another tournament not on last year's schedule. The Lady Jaguars will travel to USA Bowl in Dallas, Texas from February 10-12. Southern will see another star studded field with five teams making regionals a year ago, two of those teams competed in the final four.

March will bring the final two tournaments of the season. First up will be the TNBA/HBCU Invitational in Douglasville, Georgia on March 3-5. The SWAC Championships will take place in Arlington, Texas at the International Training and Research Center on March 24-26. The Lady Jaguars will be looking to win their first SWAC Championship since 2011 and eighth overall.

"We have seniors Kymberly Jackson, Lindsey Ugas and Alanna Coward who have been with me from the start," Doyle said. "The team would like to send them off as champions."

If the Lady Jaguars are able to come away with the conference trophy, they will then get one more chance with the NCAA Regionals on April 8-10.

"Sophomores Nyla Wilson, Kelsey Quinney and Jailyn Rogers who are the heart and soul of this team," Coach Doyle continued. "Raja Anderson is a senior transfer that brings experience and a very competitive spirit. Lastly, we have freshman Jayden Hauck who joins the team with a lengthy resume of accomplishments."

The Lady Jaguars are returning the reigning Freshman of the Year in Rogers, along with five others who contributed to the success in 2021-22. Southern also added the 2022 High School National Champion in Hauck and Jackson State transfer Raja Anderson.

"These ladies have returned with a ready to work attitude," Doyle said. "This team is loaded with talent, and I cannot wait to unleash these ladies this year."
