Jags Win Weekend Series At Grambling State

The Jaguars picked up fourteen runs off twelve hits on the day. In the fourth inning Tremaine Spears gets things started off for the Jaguars with his fifth home run of the season. In the fifth inning O'Neill Burgos singled through left field to bring in Jovante Dorris to give the Jags their second run of the day. JJ Rollon scored on a wild pitch to pull the Jags within two runs of the Tigers. In the sixth inning Spears picks up his 31st RBI of the season and 4th on the day hitting a double to center field sending DorrisRollon and Jaylen Armstrong racing around the bases to give the Jaguars a one-point lead over the Tigers, 5-6. In the seventh inning Armstrong singled up the middle of the field to pick up two RBI's sending Caleb Tart and Nathaniel Lai home to give the Jags a 8-7 edge over the Tigers. In the eighth inning Burgos and Spears scored off a throwing error from GSU pitcher. Armstrong doubled to left field sending Taj Porter and Tart hom to pick up his fourth RBI on the day. Dorris hits a line drive to the Tigers short stop to send Armstrong home to give the Jags their fifth run if the inning. In the final inning of the ball game Tart singled to third base to send Porter across home plate to give the Jaguars a 14-9 lead over the Tigers.  

"It was a collective effort on the mound and Caleb Tart, Jaylen Armstrong, Tremaine Spears had productive days at the plate to carry us to a series win today, said Chris Crenshaw, Southern Head Coach. 

Mykel Page picks up his first win of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from RollonDorrisSpearsPorterTart and Armstrong with two runs each. Burgos and Lai with one run each. 

SU is 15-26, 12-9 SWAC on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Tuesday for a mid-week game on the Bluff as they take on Lamar University inside Lee-Hines Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 PM.
