HOUSTON, TX -- Southern University baseball team came out with a different perspective on Friday night as they put on a home run derby in the sixth and seven inning to shut out Texas Southern 11-0 in seven innings as the Jaguars run ruled the Tigers in game one of the weekend series at MacGregor Park.

In the seventh inning Jaylen Armstrong hits a Grand Slam to put the game out of reach for the Jaguars as they picks up 9 RBI's in the contest.

The Jaguars picked up eleven runs off seven hits on the day. In the six inning Justin Wiley gets the party started nailing a home run to left center field to give the Jags their first run of the day. Jovante Dorris steps to the plate to nail the Jags second home run of the day to left center field to give the SU a 2-0 lead. O'Neill Burgos knocks in a two-run homer to center field sending JJ Rollon racing across home plate to give the Jags a 4-0 lead over the Tigers. In the seventh inning Caleb Tart scored the Jags fifth run of the day off a passed ball. Dorris scored off sac-fly to left field from Taj Porter to give the Jags their sixth run of the day. Rollon picks up his second run of the day off a wild pitch. Armstrong picks up his first Grand Slam of the season to send Isaiah Adams, Nathaniel Lai and Burgos across home plate to give the Jags their final four runs of the day.

"Joseph Battaglia was good again today for us. He kept TSU off balance until we found our footing offensively, said Chris Crenshaw, Southern Head Coach."

Battaglia (5-4) picks up his fifth win of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from Burgos, Dorris and Rollon with two runs each. Adams, Armstrong, Lai, Tart and Wiley with one run each.

SU is 13-22, 10-6 (SWAC) on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for game two of the weekend series against Texas Southern in Houston, TX. First pitch is slated for 2 PM.
