TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Southern University cross country teams is hoping their schedule has prepared them for the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship Monday in Tallahassee, Florida.

Southern is coming off the Clemson Classic at the University of Alabama against some of the toughest teams in the country. The Jaguars will use the experience they gained for the 6k race for the men and 5k race for the women.
Nicholas Scott has been the lead Jaguars all season. He named SWAC men's runner of the week for his performance at the LSU Invitational, where he finished 15thg with a time of 19:56.5 in the six-mile race. Last year, Scott finished as an all-conference performer with his personal best of 26:59.1 in the 8k race.
Lafayette Collins also had his personal best at last seasons championships at 27:20.9. He ran a 28:19.2 last time in the 8k. Ta'Cardrick Alexander had a 29:42.1, Christian Philips finished at 29:56.8, Bryce Moore crossed at 30:55.7 and Christopher Huges was the final Jaguar to finish at 31:50.8. Alexander was the only other Jaguar to compete at last year's championship.
Camille Lewis has been a big addition for the Lady Jaguars. She has been the fastest woman in the two races she competed in. She has times of 20:02.7 in the 5k at the LSU Invitational and 23:36.1 in the 6k at the Clemson Classic.
Trinity Kirk and Sierra Session have adjusted from being sprinters to the longer distance runs in cross country meets. Kirk had a time of 22:55.0 at LSU. Session had a 24:44.6 in the 5k.
Shani Simon and Destiny Michell are in their second cross country season. Simon has a personal best of 22:45.6 in the 5k last season, this year her time was 22:56.6. Mitchell set a personal best in last years SWAC championship with a time of 21:50.5, she did not run the 5k this season.
Kashi Roberts is accustomed to the long distances, competing in the longer distances in the track and field season. Roberts had a personal best last year with a 21:37.5, this season she ran a 26:26.0.
Camile Lewis and
Shani Simon lead the women. This will be Lewis' second meet as a Lady Jaguar, while Simon has become a staple in the long-distance races for Southern. Trinity Kirk, Sierra Sessions and
Kashi Roberts are normally sprinters for the Lady Jaguars but are stepping up to do their part for the cross-country team.
Destiny Mitchell will return and run her first race this season.
