BATON ROUGE, LA-- Southern jumps out on Texas Southern in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruise to a ten-point victory inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the campus of Southern University. 

With twenty-four seconds left in the first quarter SU was down by one-point before going on a 12-0 run to take a 10-point lead over the Lady Tigers.

SU had three players finish the night with double-digits led by senior guard Kayla Watson with 13 points, three rebounds, two steals and one block. Nakia Kincey and Genovea Johnson added 11 points each. Kincey also finished the night with six rebounds along with four steals. Taneara Moore grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds along with a team-high five steals.   

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 35 turnovers, picking up 24 points off turnovers. SU played eleven players with only ten landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 30 percent for the game (24-81) and 14 percent from behind the arc (3-21). SU shot 65 percent from the charity stripe finishing (19-29).

Texas Southern was led by Shalexxus Aaron who finished with a game-high 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Ataiya Bridges added 13 points and five rebounds. Andriana Avent chipped in 12 points and seven boards. Niya Mitchell finished the night with a game-high 12 rebounds along with nine points and a steal. 

UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action on Wednesday, January 5th as they take on the Prairie View A&M Panthers inside F. G. Clark Activity Center. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM.
