Southern Forces 33 Turnovers in 89-52 Blowout Win Over Prairie View

BATON ROUGE, LA-- Senior guard Amani Mcwain lights up the three-point line for the Lady Jaguars as they rout Prairie View 89-52 on Wednesday night inside F. G. Clark Activity Center in front of 1,852 fans on the campus Southern University.

SU finished the night with a season-high 18 steals led by senior forward Taneara Moore with four. Late in the fourth quarter SU went on a 12-point run to extend their lead to 40-points over the Lady Panthers.

Southern had four player in double-digits led by Mcwain with 24 points and six rebounds in a team-high 24 minutes of play. Aleighyah Fontenot added 14 points and four assists. Junior guard Diamond Hunter  finished with 12 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Nakia Kincey chipped in 11 points and two boards.

"We made them uncomfortable tonight with our pressure defense on the perimeter and taking away the easy baskets, said Carlos Funchess, SU Head Coach."

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Panthers to 33 turnovers, picking up 23 points off turnovers. SU played all 17 players with 12 landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 47 percent for the game (33-70) and 46 percent from behind the arc (13-28). SU shot 59 percent from the charity stripe finishing (10-17).
