Southern Drops A Close One to Grambling 55-46

GRAMBLING, LA -- Despite Diamond Hunter  15-point effort the Lady Jaguars weren't able to overcome the Lady Tigers on the road at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center falling 46-55 in front of 2,791 fans.

The Lady Jaguars started the game on a 14-9 in the first quarter, but slowed down in the second quarter letting GSU out score them 21-9 taking the lead into the locker room 30-23. 

Hunter  led the Jaguars off the bench shooting 3-of-5 from behind the arc, finishing the day with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Genovea Johnson finish the day with with eight points and four rebounds. Raven White added seven points, three rebounds and a steal. Nakia Kincey finished the day with a team-high five boards.

"Diamond shot the ball well for us tonight, he effort kept us in the game during the first half, said Carlos Funchess, SU Head Coach. We got some good looks we just have to knock down open shots."

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 21 turnovers, picking up 21 points off turnovers. SU played 10 players with 8 landing in the scoring column. Southern shot a season low 25 percent for the game (15-59) and 15 percent from behind the arc (3-19). SU shot 54 percent from the charity stripe finishing (13-24).

Taylor Williams led Bethune-Cookman with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Kayla White added nine points off the bench for the Lady Wildcats. 

UP NEXT
Southern will return home for a two-game home stand against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 22nd) and Mississippi Valley State University ( Jan. 24th) inside F. G. Clark Activity Center. Tipoff is slated for for 3 PM on the 22nd and 5:30 PM on the 24th.
