Southern Dominates Bethune-Cookman to Win Fourth Straight Conference Game

DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Southern took a 10-0 lead to open the game and never looked back as the dismantle Bethune-Cookman 74-47 to pick up their fourth straight conference win of the season.

The Lady Jaguars and Lady Wildcats battled back and forth the entire first half before turning up the defensive intensity and taking full control of the third quarter outscoring BCU 46-20 in the second half.

Southern had three players finish the night in double-digits led by senior guard Kayla Watson with game-high 17 points, four rebound and two assists, all omn twenty-three minutes of play. Amani Mcwain picks up her thrid-striaght game in double figures with13 points. Junior guard Genovea Johnson chipped in 11 points off 5-of-8 shooting for the field. Nakia Kincey grabbed a team-high seven boards and added seven points for the Lady Jaguars.

"We started a little slow offensively but I thought our defense was solid most of the game. In the third quarter we knocked down a few shots and really got going offensively, said Carlos Funchess, SU Head Coach. I think our pressure defense really wore their guards down and made it tough for them to score. Our kids put forth a tremendous effort and we are happy to get these two wins on the road."

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Wildcats to 28 turnovers, picking up 30 points off turnovers. SU played all 16 players with 14 landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 42 percent for the game (32-71) and 35 percent from behind the arc (7-20). SU shot 78 percent from the charity stripe finishing (7-9).

Taylor Williams led Bethune-Cookman with 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Kayla White added nine points off the bench for the Lady Wildcats.
