Southern Falls to No. 14 Iowa State

AMES, IOWA -- The Southern Jaguars women's basketball team got all they could handle from the fourteenth ranked team in the country on the road in front of 9,314 fans on Sunday afternoon. Final score was 96-55 inside James H Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University.

The Lady Cyclones jumped out on the Lady Jags from the tip and never looked back going to the free throw line eight times in the first half. The Lady Jags defense wqs aggressive all game picking up 10 steals and forcing 14 turnovers but never could get on track on the offensive side of the ball.

Senior guard Nakia Kincey shot fifty percent from behind the arc finishing with a team-high 12 points, four rebounds and one steal in twenty-one minutes of play. Freshman point guard Aleighyah Fontenot added 10 points, five rebounds and one steal in a team-high twenty-seven minutes of play. Junior guard Genovea Johnson chipped in eights, one assist and two steals. Freshman center finished the day with a career-high six rebounds and three steals. 

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Cyclones to 14 turnovers, picking up 13 points off turnovers. SU played thirteen players with ten landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 29 percent for the game (19-66) and 23 percent from behind the arc (4-17). SU shot 76 percent from the charity stripe finishing (13-17)

Iowa State hada four players finish the day in double-digits led by Aubrey Joens with 21 points and game-high nine rebounds, followed by her sister Ashley Joens with 16 points. Lexi Donarski added 15 points and Nyamer Diew chipped in 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. Point guard Emily Ryan had a season-high 13 assists.

UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action December 4th in Memphis, Tenn as they take on the University of Memphis inside Fedex Forum. The game is slated for a 2 PM tipoff.
